True Edge-To-Edge Ceramic Coverage:
The Model 1023's defining feature is its true edge-to-edge ceramic coverage. Many armor plates on the market claim "edge-to-edge" coverage but actually use foam perimeters or reduced ceramic coverage around the edges to save weight and cost. These foam perimeters create vulnerable zones where ballistic protection is significantly reduced or nonexistent.
The Model 1023 eliminates this compromise by providing continuous ceramic coverage from edge to edge across the entire plate surface. This means every square inch of the plate offers the same level of RF3 protection, with no vulnerable zones where a projectile could penetrate more easily. This comprehensive coverage is particularly important because you cannot predict where a threat will impact your armor - true edge-to-edge coverage ensures maximum protection regardless of impact location.
The edge-to-edge ceramic coverage is achieved while maintaining a reasonable weight profile, demonstrating GTS's advanced manufacturing capabilities and commitment to providing genuine protection rather than marketing claims.
Ballistic Performance & Testing:
The Model 1023 meets NIJ 0101.07 RF3 standards, providing protection against .30-06 M2 AP armor-piercing ammunition traveling at 2880 feet per second. The RF3 protection level also covers all lower-tier threats including M193, M855, M855A1, 7.62 x 51mm M80, and 7.62 x 39mm MSC. The plate is multi-hit capable, with performance validated through extensive testing at NIJ-approved laboratories.
The mosaic ceramic configuration uses an array of individual 99%+ pure alumina ceramic tiles rather than a single monolithic piece. This is the best performing ceramic armor configuration for multi-hit scenarios. When a projectile impacts the plate, the damage is contained within the affected tile and immediately surrounding area, while the rest of the plate maintains its full protective capability. This allows the armor to withstand multiple impacts in different locations without catastrophic failure.
NIJ-approved laboratory testing demonstrates the Model 1023's consistent performance across multiple impact scenarios. The built-in 0.25" trauma pad provides additional protection against backface deformation, helping to prevent blunt force trauma even when the ceramic successfully stops the projectile.
Superior Materials & Construction:
GTS manufactures the Model 1023 using a controlled pressure process that ensures consistent bonding and performance across every plate. The 99%+ pure alumina ceramic provides superior hardness and fracture resistance compared to lower-purity alternatives used by many competitors. The mosaic tile array is precisely arranged to provide optimal coverage and multi-hit capability.
The plate construction includes crack arresting layers made from aramid and carbon fiber materials. These layers help control ceramic fragmentation during impacts, reducing ceramic dust and maintaining structural integrity. The UHMWPE backing plate provides additional strength and helps manage backface deformation to protect against blunt force trauma. All components are bonded using proprietary ARMORFILM™ adhesives that are 100% sourced and manufactured in the USA.
The single-curve design provides a balance between comfort and ease of manufacturing, making it compatible with most standard plate carriers. The 1000 denier water-resistant nylon cover protects the plate during daily use and provides a durable outer surface. The 1-inch thickness fits most carrier pockets designed for RF3 plates.
Comparison to Other Brands:
Many armor manufacturers use foam perimeters or reduced ceramic coverage to create lighter, cheaper plates while still claiming "edge-to-edge" coverage. These compromises create vulnerable zones where protection is significantly reduced. The Model 1023 provides genuine edge-to-edge ceramic coverage, ensuring consistent RF3 protection across the entire plate surface.
Better than competitor plates: GTS uses a crack arrestor, Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight-Polyethylene (UHMWPE) backers (no glass), and a 99%+ alumina ceramic tile array with true edge-to-edge coverage. The competition typically does not provide all of these features, particularly the genuine edge-to-edge ceramic coverage.
Applications & Use Cases:
The Model 1023 is ideal for law enforcement officers, military personnel, security professionals, and civilians who require maximum rifle threat protection with no vulnerable zones. The true edge-to-edge ceramic coverage makes it particularly well-suited for high-risk environments where you cannot predict impact locations and need consistent protection across the entire plate surface.
The RF3 protection level makes it suitable for high-threat environments where armor-piercing ammunition may be encountered. The proven mosaic design and multi-hit capability provide confidence in scenarios where multiple impacts are possible. The built-in trauma pad provides additional protection against backface deformation and blunt force trauma.
Available in multiple sizes and cuts to fit various carrier systems and body types. The standalone design means no soft armor backing is required, simplifying your armor system while maintaining full RF3 protection. The 1000 denier water-resistant nylon cover protects the plate during daily use and provides a durable outer surface.
U.S. Law prohibits persons convicted of certain violent state and/or federal felonies from purchasing body armor. You are responsible for knowledge of and compliance with federal, state and local laws regarding body armor.
